CONOR MCGREGOR OUT OF UFC 303 DUE TO INJURY
New Title Fight Announced:
Conor McGregor will not be fighting in UFC 303 due to an injury, as announced by Dana White. However, the promotion was able to quickly organize a new title fight as the main event. Light heavyweight champion Alex Pereira will be defending his title against Jiri Prochazka.
Pereira Steps Up:
Despite dealing with some bumps and bruises from a recent media tour in Australia, Pereira agreed to fight on short notice for the second time in 2024. He previously fought at UFC 300 and is now stepping up again to headline UFC 303.
Rebooking the Fight:
While McGregor's injury is not expected to keep him out for long, UFC is actively looking to reschedule the fight, possibly in August. However, building a new fight card on short notice and finding a venue will be challenging.
Venue Challenges:
The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where UFC's biggest fights usually take place, is booked every Saturday from August through September. The UFC may need to consider other venues, as McGregor hasn't fought outside of T-Mobile Arena since 2016.
McGregor's Recent Events:
McGregor was seen partying with his fiancée before a press conference in Dublin, Ireland was abruptly canceled due to his injury. The cancellation was not related to foul play, but rather McGregor's health. McGregor hasn't fought in UFC since July 2021, when he suffered a serious leg injury.
