MANCHESTER UNITED URGED TO GIVE MASON GREENWOOD A SECOND CHANCE

Former Red Devils Winger Supports Greenwood's Return

According to express.co, Manchester United has been encouraged to give Mason Greenwood another opportunity next season after his loan spell at Getafe. Ian Storey-Moore, a former player for the club, believes that Greenwood should continue his career at Old Trafford despite the club's change of heart during the summer.

Charges Dropped Against Greenwood

Earlier this year, charges of attempted assault and controlling and coercive behavior against the 22-year-old forward were dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service. Greenwood had consistently denied these allegations.

Internal Inquiry and Reintegration Plans

After conducting a six-month internal inquiry into Greenwood's arrest in 2022, United's chief executive, Richard Arnold, reportedly informed the staff about plans to reintegrate Greenwood into the team. Football director John Murtough and manager Erik ten Hag were said to support this decision. However, due to staff threats to strike and external criticism, the club made a last-minute U-turn.

Greenwood's Loan to Getafe

As a result of the U-turn, Greenwood joined La Liga side Getafe on loan until next summer. At that point, he will still have one year remaining on his United contract. Despite the circumstances, Greenwood is enjoying his time in Spain and is gradually regaining his scoring touch, which made him one of Europe's most exciting young attackers after his breakthrough in 2019.

United's Stance and Storey-Moore's Opinion

United's current stance reportedly remains unchanged. They do not expect Greenwood to represent the club again after his loan spell at Getafe. However, Ian Storey-Moore believes that Greenwood should stay at Old Trafford next season to provide much-needed firepower to Ten Hag's struggling attacking lineup.

Everyone Deserves a Second Chance

"Everybody deserves a second chance. He has served his time, so to speak, and they should possibly let him back in next season," Storey-Moore expressed to Express Sport. "He's an asset, isn't he? I think he's better than what they've got when he's at his best, absolutely."

United's Struggles in Front of Goal

So far this season, Marcus Rashford's goal in a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal is the only Premier League goal scored by a United forward. Ten Hag's team has only managed to score 13 goals in 12 league matches, a low number that only six other teams have failed to match.
