LUIS DIAZ'S FATHER RELEASED AFTER BEING KIDNAPPED BY ELN GUERRILLAS
A Father's Safe Return
Luis Manuel Díaz Jimenez, the father of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz, has been released after being kidnapped by ELN guerrillas in Colombia. After 12 days in captivity, the 58-year-old is now safe in the hands of a United Nations (UN) committee.
A Joint Effort
To secure his release, a commission from the UN and the Catholic Church worked together to negotiate with the ELN. They agreed that the kidnappers would hand over Luiz Jimenez in the border area between La Guajira and Cesar.
Aerial Rescue
Helicopters were seen circling the designated area, ready to transport Diaz's father to safety. The helicopter was waiting at the Valledupar airport, and only humanitarian workers and the helicopter crew were allowed onboard.
Heading to Safety
After the handover, Diaz's father will be taken to a hospital for a checkup to ensure his well-being after the traumatic experience.
A Delayed Release
Although the Colombian government announced on Wednesday that the operation to release Luiz Jimenez had begun, it was actually yesterday that Diaz's father was finally freed.
This is a great relief for Luis Diaz and his family, as they can now celebrate the safe return of his father.
