UEFA PRESIDENT STANDS BY DECISION TO CHARGE MANCHESTER CITY
UEFA, the governing body of European football, charged Manchester City in 2020 for breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules and misleading the organization. However, City appealed the decision and it was overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Despite this, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin believes that UEFA made the right call in imposing the punishment and stands by their ruling.
Ceferin's Perspective:
In an interview with The Telegraph, Ceferin expressed his confidence in UEFA's decision. He compared it to a trial lawyer winning a case they thought they would lose or losing a case they were sure they would win. He emphasized the importance of respecting the court's decision in a fair and democratic society.
Trust in the Independent Body:
Ceferin refrained from discussing the specific case in England but expressed his trust in the decision made by UEFA's independent body. He stated that he did not personally influence or interfere with the decision-making process.
Pending Charges:
Currently, Manchester City is facing 115 charges from the Premier League for breaching FFP rules. Richard Masters, the CEO of the Premier League, confirmed that a date has been set for the case to be heard. It is important to note that Everton and Nottingham Forest have already faced punishments this season for similar breaches.
Uncertain Future:
While a date has been set for City's case, the exact timing is still unknown. In the meantime, the club will continue to participate in the Premier League, the FA Cup, and the Champions League.
