ARTHUR OKONKWO GRANTED APPROVAL TO PLAY FOR NIGERIA BY FIFA

FIFA Approval:
Former England youth international goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo, 22, who is currently on loan at League Two club Wrexham from Arsenal, has been given the green light by FIFA to switch his nationality and play for Nigeria.

International Allegiance:
Okonkwo's last appearance for the England U18s was more than four years ago, indicating a potential change in his international loyalty.

Super Eagles Interest:
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro contacted Okonkwo in October 2023, expressing interest in having him join the team for the AFCON tournament. However, the team ultimately selected South African-based goalkeeper Stanley Nwabili.

Performance at Wrexham:
During his time at Wrexham, Okonkwo has played in 26 matches across all competitions and has achieved 11 clean sheets.
