RONALDO SCORES FIRST HAT-TRICK FOR NEW CLUB

Cristiano Ronaldo scored the 500th league goal of his club career on Thursday when he netted from open play for the first time in an Al Nassr jersey. Ronaldo found the net for the Saudi Pro League title favourites 21 minutes into their away game at Al-Wehda. He produced a clinical low finish with his left foot after being set up by Abdulrahman Ghareeb. Ronaldo had scored 311 league goals for Real Madrid, 103 for Manchester United, 81 for Juventus and three for Sporting Lisbon. This was Ronaldo’s second career goal for Al Nassr after he had  converted a late penalty in last week’s 2-2 draw  at Al Fateh.

The Super Eagles and Atalanta forward, Ademola Lookman, has expressed delight over choosing Nigeria at the international level over the Three Lions of England. The 25-year-old attacker was born in Wandsworth, South West London to Nigerian parents. Although, he represented England at the youth level before switching his allegiance to Nigeria following the    FIFA approval to play for Nigeria on February 10, 2022. In an interview with an Italian news platform, L’Eco di Bergamo, Lookman insisted that he is happy with the decision to represent the three-time African champions. “I have no regrets, I took the right decision. This is my career,” he said. “I always want to play for Nigeria and I’m proud of this. I was born in England, but my family is from Nigeria and I have a strong bond with both countries.” Lookman represented the country in the just-concluded African Cup of Nations and had made six appearances for the Super Eagles with a goal to his name.

VICTOR OSIMHEN SMASHES RONALDO'S RECORD

Napoli striker, Victor Osimhen has smashed Cristiano Ronaldo’s four-year record and is now Serie A’s jump king. The Nigerian leapt 2.58 metres during their commanding 3-0 win away to Spezia. Osimhen achieved the incredible feat to score his first goal and Napoli’s second of the day at the Stadio Alberto Picco. After a goalless first half, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring from the penalty spot before Osimhen added the second in the 68th minute. The 24-year-old produced a staggering 71cm leap and reached a height of 8.47ft (2.58m) – higher than the crossbar (8ft) – before heading past Spezia goalkeeper BartÅ‚omiej DrÄ…gowski. And according to Corriere dello Sport, with that jump, Osimhen climbed to a height of 2.58 metres. He has now set a new Italian Serie A record, breaking the previous 2.56 metres mark set by Ronaldo for Juventus against Sampdoria in 2019.

OBAFEMI MARTINS' SON SIGNS FIRST PROFESSIONAL CONTRACT

Retired Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins’ son Kevin Maussi Martins, has signed his first professional contract at Italian Serie A club Monza. Kevin’s father Obafemi Martins had an excellent career. He played in the Serie A for Inter Milan, in the Premier League for Newcastle United, in the La Liga with Levante, Bundesliga with Wolfsburg before moving to the United States of America and China in the twilight of his career. Kevin, who operates as an attacker joined the AC Milan academy before switching to Inter Milan in 2018. He then rose the ranks before switching to Monza. Despite his father’s nationality, Kevin has played for the Italian under-15 team and has a goal to his name after three games. On Saturday, Monza announced that Kevin had signed his first professional contract at the club which will last till June 2024, and Martins took to social media to share his excitement.

IHEANACHO ON TARGET FOR LEICESTER CITY

Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho, continued his goal-scoring form with a goal and two assists in Leicester City’s 4-2 away victory against Aston Villa on Saturday in the English Premier League. It was Iheanacho’s second league goal this season since last September against Brighton. The 28-year-old, who scored the Foxes’ only goal during their FA cup challenge against Walsall ensured Brendan Rodgers’ side finally records their first EPL win since November. The Nigerian scored in the 41st minute and assisted two of his teammates during the encounter. Nine minutes into the game, Aston Villa got in front through Olie Watkins, who slotted home a rebound from Emiliano Buendia’s outside shot. However, the visitors responded almost immediately with Iheanacho’s assist to James Maddison, who rifled the through ball past Emiliano Martinez in the 12th minute.
